Color-Changing Nails: iPolish

Color-changing nails have stopped being a movie prop. I first noticed them at CES 2026, where iPolish showed press-on nails that change shade from an app, with no polish, no drying time and no salon chair.

They are not on anyone’s fingertips yet. That is the part I want you to hold onto.

Color-Changing Nails: What I Saw First

The Florida-based company, based on the Space Coast, called the idea e-ink for your fingertips. The reference point most writers reached for was the receptionist in Total Recall who changes her polish with a pen.

The pitch is simple. You match your nails to the outfit, the mood or the hour, as often as you like, until the set wears out.

How Color-Changing Nails Work

The Display Inside Color-Changing Nails

Each nail is an acrylic press-on with a tiny display built in. iPolish says it uses electrophoretic nanopolymers, the same family of technology as the screen on an e-reader.

A small charge moves the color. Once a shade is set, it stays put without power. The nails carry no battery and nothing touches your skin.

The Wand Behind Color-Changing Nails

The power lives in the Magic Wand, a rechargeable device that connects to your phone over Bluetooth. You pick a shade in the iOS or Android app, slide a nail into the wand, and wait.

Coverage at CES put the change at about five seconds per nail. The wand runs a day or two between charges, according to iPolish.

Color-Changing Nails by the Numbers

The Starter Kit for Color-Changing Nails

  • Price: $95 for the starter kit.
  • Inside: 24 nails in 12 sizes (one full manicure), the Magic Wand, a USB-C cable, Hyper Glue, a clear top coat, and basic prep tools.
  • Refills: $6.50 for a two-nail pack in your size.
  • Waterproof: yes, per the company.

Wear Time for Color-Changing Nails

These are single-use. iPolish tested them for 14 days of continuous wear and warrants them for 7. It expects a set to last one to three weeks, until your natural nail grows out.

Each pack includes a QR code that unlocks the app for 30 days. The company says there is no separate subscription.

Color-Changing Nails: The Honest Timeline

Shipping Dates for Color-Changing Nails

CES coverage promised June 2026 shipping. That slid to a late-October projection for orders placed after July 1. iPolish’s own pre-order page now projects the end of December 2026.

Orders are filled in the order received. Pre-orders stay fully refundable until the company gives you a shipping date.

Where Color-Changing Nails Launch First

The first markets in 2026 are the U.S., Canada, the U.K., France, Germany, Spain and Italy. Japan, Korea, Singapore, the UAE, Mexico and India are listed for later in 2026 or 2027.

Color-Changing Nails: Questions I Am Still Asking

The Color Count Gap in Color-Changing Nails

At CES the claim was more than 400 shades. The FAQ today says more than 300. Both numbers are real claims from the same company, so I am holding the lower one until the product ships.

The No-Filing Rule for Color-Changing Nails

You cannot cut or file these nails, because it breaks the display. Only two shapes were shown at launch, and the company says more lengths and shapes are planned.

Early online reactions to the demo ranged from awe to doubt. No independent durability reviews exist yet.

Why Color-Changing Nails Matter to the Studio

This is the clearest sign yet that beauty and wearable tech are merging. A manicure that behaves like a screen changes what “a nail color” even means.

The salon side is moving too. iPolish has a professional program that unlocks extra premium shades through a salon’s QR code.

Color-Changing Nails and the Makeup Lane

The company’s own FAQ is titled for digital cosmetics and hints at more to come, and one early report said the team plans color-changing makeup. I am watching that one closely.
